I once wrote a C++ based Eulerian solver for the Hasegawa-Mima Model in two dimensions to investigate the propagation of drift-waves in an unstable plasma regime. (Hasegawa Mima Simulation Suite ‘HMS’) Due to a parallel assignment of writing a sizable German text for school, I paired the both of them to produce a superficial introductory text that introduces the reader to the concepts of driftwaves, instability, and finally also touches briefly on my simulation approach. I am very thankful for Dr. Christian Brandt’s help in reviewing the final version and providing thorough and guiding explanations to questions I had regarding it. This was my first exposure to Nonlinear-Chaos and motivated me to pick up one of Steven Strogatz’ texts.
Below you are absolutely invited to take a look at my work. I haven’t corrected the original coloured paper, so another version with Dr. Brandt’s comments is attached.
